Nicholas Dyson Music
Nicholas Dyson is one of Ottawa’s busiest trumpeters. He performs regularly with The Beeched Wailers, Prime Rib Big Band, Los Gringos, Bank Street Bonbons, and Mackenzie Rhythm Section.
Nicholas has also played with the National Arts Centre Orchestra Pops, Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de Gatineau, Capital Brassworks, and many musical theatre shows, such as Book of Mormon, Motown: The Musical, West Side Story, A Chorus Line, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Drowsy Chaperone and The Producers.
Nicholas has performed or toured with many well-known artists over the years, such as Dave Brubeck, Roy Hargrove Big Band, Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Natalie Cole, Jamie Cullum, Kim Massie, Christine Jensen, Omara Portuondo, Jann Arden, Hilario Duran, Joe Sullivan, Paul Anka, The Temptations, The Coasters, The Platters, Solomon Douglas Swingtet, Patrick Watson, Dan Mangan, and Broken Social Scene.
Nicholas has contributed to albums by Solomon Douglas Swingtet, Tilda, That’s The Spirit, SoulJazz Orchestra’s 'Rising Sun' (2011 JUNO nomination) and 'Solidarity' (2013 JUNO nomination), Bank Street Bonbons, The Cooper Brothers, Slim Moore & the Mar-Kays, Mike Essoudry’s Mash Potato Mashers, The Yohawks, Orienteers, Phil Motion & the Easy Lo-Fi, Pete Foret, Kayla Howran, Janie Renée, Good Advice, a live concert recording for Radio Canada with Los Gringos, and a scheduled release of April 2020 for new album from Prime Rib Big Band "Choice Cuts".
In addition to maintaining a busy private trumpet studio, Nicholas is a Carleton University Jazz Camp faculty member, hosts Trumpet Bootcamp at Alcorn Music Studios, founded and directed 10 successful years of Capital Youth Jazz Orchestra 2009-2019, and is active as a guest clinician, soloist and adjudicator. Trumpet Bootcamp has hosted masterclasses with master players Karen Donnelly, Ingrid Jensen, Joe Sullivan, Bria Skonberg and Jason Logue.
